Men’s Volleyball Falls in NECVA Tournament Quarterfinals
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Seeded No. 5 in the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) Championship Tournament, MIT swept No. 12 Stevenson University (25-18, 25-17, 25-19) but lost to No. 4 Philadelphia Biblical University (17-25, 19-25, 26-24, 25-17, 15-6). Tim Lee and David Thomas represented the nationally-ranked No. 11 Engineers (29-7) on the NECVA All-Tournament Team.
In MIT's first round match against Stevenson, Ken Siebert tallied nine digs, seven kills, two blocks, and two aces. Thomas was a force at the net as he posted seven kills, a .462 hitting percentage, and four blocks while Garrett Winther and Malcolm Bean both notched six kills and two blocks. Lee compiled 27 assists, 10 digs, and three blocks as Patrick Vatterott bolstered the blocking corps with two stops. Caine Jette and Jeremy Velazquez rounded out the defense with six and five digs, respectively.
Against nationally-ranked No. 9 Philadelphia Biblical, Thomas registered 13 kills, seven blocks, and four digs as Vatterott amassed 12 blocks and five kills. Siebert racked up nine kills, six blocks, and six digs while Bean recorded nine kills, two blocks, and two aces. Lee notched 33 assists and three blocks as Velazquez collected seven digs.
