MIT Collects Five Capital One Academic All-America At-Large Awards
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT seniors Craig Cheney (Sherwood, Ore.), Joey Rafidi (Los Angeles, Calif.), Paul Syta (Fairport, N.Y.), Michelle Teplensky (Somers, N.Y.) and Maddy Wharton (Swarthmore, Pa.) were selected for Capital One Academic All-America At-Large honors as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Tuesday. The five awards tied for the highest tally among Division III programs this year and equaled the most recipients in Institute history which was first achieved during the 1998-99 academic year. MIT is the all-time Division III leader in producing Academic All-Americas and currently ranks third across all NCAA Divisions with 212 honorees.

Brendan Chang Named to ECAC Men’s Volleyball All-Star Team
CENTREVILLE, Mass. – Sophomore libero Brendan Chang (Laytonsville, Md.) was MIT’s sole representative on the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Men’s Volleyball All-Star Team as announced by the association on Tuesday. A second-team pick, Chang was tabbed for ECAC Libero of the Year accolades last season while securing a spot on the All-Star Team.

Four Engineers Named to CoSIDA Men's Academic All-District Team
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Four MIT student-athletes were named to the Capital One Academic All-District At-Large team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday afternoon. Seniors Craig Cheney (Sherwood, Ore.), Joey Rafidi (Los Angeles, Calif.), Paul Syta (Fairport, N.Y.), and Edwin Zhang (Falls Church, Va.) will represent MIT on the national ballot and will vie for Academic All-America honors, which will be voted on next month.

Chang and Syta Collect AVCA All-America Honors
LEXINGTON, Ky. – For the second year in a row, the MIT men’s volleyball received multiple All-America accolades from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). Sophomore Brendan Chang (Laytonsville, Md.) was placed on the First Team for the second time in his career while senior Paul Syta (Fairport, N.Y.) earned a spot on the Second Team, marking his first honor from the association.

Men's Volleyball Falls to Endicott, 3-0, in NCAA Tournament
BEVERLY, Mass. – In its first appearance at the NCAA Division III Men’s Volleyball Championship Tournament, nationally-ranked No. 6 MIT fell to host Endicott College, 25-15, 25-20, 27-25, in first round action on Saturday. With the loss, the Engineers finish the year with a ledger of 24-7.

MIT Earns At-Large Bid to NCAA Men's Volleyball Tournament
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the first time in program history, the MIT men's volleyball team qualified for the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament as it earned a spot courtesy of an at-large bid. The Engineers will travel to local foe Endicott College on Saturday, April 19 for a first round match against the host Gulls at 4:00 p.m.

Engineers Fall to Stevens, 3-1, in UVC Quarterfinals
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Seeded No. 3 in the United Volleyball Conference (UVC) Championship Tournament, MIT fell to No. 6 seed Stevens Institute of Technology, 16-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-22, in the quarterfinal round on Saturday afternoon at Nazareth College. The nationally-ranked No. 5 Engineers finish their season with a ledger of 24-6 and await news regarding the possibility of an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship Tournament which will be announced on Monday, April 14.

Men's Volleyball Collects UVC Accolades
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The No. 5 MIT men’s volleyball team received four postseason honors from the United Volleyball Conference (UVC), including a pair of major awards, as announced by the league on Thursday. Head coach Paul Dill was tabbed for Co-Coach of the Year plaudits while sophomore Brendan Chang (Laytonsville, Md.) earned Libero/Defensive Specialist of the Year accolades. In addition, seniors Paul Syta (Fairport, N.Y.) and Kenny Siebert (St. Louis, Mo.) were voted to the All-Conference Second Team.

No. 8 MIT Outlasts No. 6 UC Santa Cruz for MIT Scramble Tournament Title
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In a back-and-forth five-set thriller, No. 8 MIT emerged with a 25-18, 16-25, 25-19, 16-25, 15-11 victory over No. 6 UC Santa Cruz to claim its first MIT Men’s Volleyball Scramble Tournament championship on Saturday. The Engineers (24-5) defeated Hunter College (25-11, 18-25, 25-22, 25-18), Bard College (25-18, 25-16, 25-14), and Southern Vermont College (26-24, 25-18, 25-18) before picking up their second five-set win over the Banana Slugs this season. Senior Paul Syta (Fairport, N.Y.) was named Tournament MVP while classmate Kenny Siebert (St. Louis, Mo.) was tabbed for All-Tournament Team honors.

Engineers Fall to Stevens in Four Sets
HOBOKEN, N.J. – In its final United Volleyball Conference (UVC) match of the season, the No. 5 MIT men’s volleyball team fell to No. 10 Stevens Institute of Technology, 25-17, 26-24, 18-25, 25-23, on Saturday. Despite the setback, the Engineers (20-5, 8-3 UVC) qualified for the UVC Championship Tournament to be held April 12-13 at Nazareth College.

Men’s Volleyball Wins Johnson & Wales Invitational
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The MIT men’s volleyball team went 4-0 en route to its second straight championship title at the Johnson & Wales University Invitational held this past weekend. The No. 5 Engineers (20-4) defeated York College (N.Y.) (25-0, 25-22, 25-11), Vassar College (25-21, 25-27, 20-25, 25-19, 15-5), Wentworth Institute of Technology (25-20, 25-19, 25-23), and the host Wildcats (25-22, 25-20, 25-14) for the crown. Senior Paul Syta (Fairport, N.Y.) was named the tournament Most Outstanding Player while sophomore Brendan Chang (Laytonsville, Md.) represented the Cardinal and Gray on the All-Tournament Team.

No. 5 MIT Sweeps Marymount on Senior Night
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In the first meeting between both programs, the MIT men’s volleyball team defeated Marymount University, 25-15, 25-19, 25-16, on Wednesday night. Junior Alex Klein (San Diego, Calif.) paced the No. 5 Engineers (16-4) with nine kills in addition to generating a .538 hitting percentage. Freshman Bryce Ernsberger (Virginia Beach, Va.) totaled eight kills, five digs, and two blocks for the Saints (6-13).

Engineers Go 2-1 at UVC Crossover
ELMIRA, N.Y. – At the United Volleyball Conference (UVC) Crossover Tournament hosted by Elmira College this past weekend, the No. 3 MIT men’s volleyball team swept Hilbert College and Penn State – Behrend but dropped a five-set battle to Medaille College. The 2-1 performance moved the Engineers’ ledger to 15-4 on the year and 8-2 in UVC action.

No. 3 Men's Volleyball Falls to No. 4 Springfield in Three Sets
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – In its annual meeting with in-state rival Springfield College, the nationally-ranked No. 3 MIT men’s volleyball team fell to the No. 4 Pride, 26-24, 25-16, 25-20, on Wednesday night. Senior Kenny Siebert (St. Louis, Mo.) and junior Andrew Busse (Mount Prospect, Ill.) paced the Engineers (13-3) with eight kills apiece as Busse finished with a .467 hitting performance and two blocks.

Kenny Siebert Named UVC and ECAC North Player of the Week
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – MIT senior Kenny Siebert (St. Louis, Mo.) was tabbed for United Volleyball Conference (UVC) as well as Corvias Eastern College Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors after leading the No. 6 Engineers to victories over No. 1 SUNY New Paltz and Elms College. In seven sets of action, he tallied 25 kills, a .553 hitting percentage, eight digs, five blocks, two aces, and one reception error in 30 attempts.

MIT Blanks Elms, 3-0
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT men’s volleyball team extended its winning streak to eight following a 25-15, 25-15, 25-16 victory over Elms College on Thursday night. Senior Kenny Siebert (St. Louis, Mo.) and junior Alex Klein (San Diego, Calif.) paced the Engineers’ (13-2) balanced front row as they both registered seven kills and two blocks. Senior Bryson Rainey (Brookline, Mass.) generated a match-high 10 kills for the Blazers (4-9) while adding five digs and two blocks.

No. 6 Engineers Outlast No. 1 New Paltz in Five-Set Win
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In a back-and-forth battle with nationally-ranked No. 1 SUNY New Paltz, the No. 6 MIT men’s volleyball team registered a 25-22, 23-25, 25-22, 17-25, 16-14 victory on Tuesday night. Senior Kenny Siebert (St. Louis, Mo.) paced the Engineers (12-2, 6-1 UVC) with a match-high 18 kills on a .536 hitting performance to go along with six digs, three blocks, and an ace. The Hawks (13-2, 5-1 UVC) saw four players reach double-digits in kills with freshman Steven Woessner (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) and sophomore Tim Ferriter (Rochester, N.Y.) leading the way with 13 apiece.

Men's Volleyball Battles Vassar for Three-Set Victory
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In a tight United Volleyball Conference (UVC) match, MIT emerged with a 28-26, 25-21, 25-22 victory over Vassar College on Saturday afternoon. The No. 10 Engineers improved to 11-2 on the year and 5-1 in conference action while the Brewers saw their ledger lower to 3-9 overall and 1-5 in the UVC.

Engineers Defeat Wentworth and CCNY in Men's Volleyball
BOSTON, Mass. – In a back-and-forth battle, the nationally-ranked No. 11 MIT men’s volleyball team emerged with a 22-25, 25-20, 22-25, 25-21, 15-10 victory over host Wentworth Institute of Technology on Saturday. Later on in the tri-match, the Engineers (9-2) swept City College of New York, 25-8, 25-14, 25-20.

Men's Volleyball Sweeps NYU, 3-0
NEW YORK, N.Y. – On its first road trip to United Volleyball Conference (UVC) rival NYU, the No. 11 MIT men’s volleyball team swept the No. 13 Violets, 25-16, 25-20, 25-21, on Wednesday night. Junior Chris Omahan (Mount Vernon, Ohio) paced the Engineers’ balanced attack with nine kills to go along with a .400 hitting performance, six digs, and two aces.

No. 13 MIT Goes 2-1 in UVC Crossover
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Serving as host for the first United Volleyball Conference (UVC) Crossover Tournament of the season, the MIT men’s volleyball team emerged with a 2-1 ledger at the conclusion of the two-day affair. The nationally-ranked No. 13 Engineers (6-2, 3-1 UVC) opened up action with a 19-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-20, 15-13 victory over No. 7 Elmira College but then fell to No. 6 Nazareth College, 25-23, 25-22, 25-13. MIT bounced back by blanking D’Youville College, 25-17, 25-12, 25-9, on Sunday afternoon.

Siebert Reaches Milestone in Sweep of Daniel Webster
NASHUA, N.H. – In a 25-19, 33-31, 25-17 men’s volleyball victory over Daniel Webster College, MIT senior Kenny Siebert (St. Louis, Mo.) surpassed 1,000 career kills courtesy of a nine-kill performance on Tuesday night. He is the sixth player in program history to accomplish this feat as he helped the No. 13 Engineers improve to 4-1 on the year.

Men's Volleyball Falls to Harvard in Four Sets
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In the annual meeting between crosstown rivals, Harvard University defeated MIT, 17-25, 25-13, 25-17, 25-19, in a non-conference men’s volleyball match on Saturday night. The nationally-ranked No. 12 Engineers suffered their first loss of the season as their ledger lowered to 3-1 while the Crimson improved to 1-3 on the year.

Tech Blanks Bard in UVC Debut
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In the first United Volleyball Conference (UVC) match in program history, the MIT men’s volleyball team defeated Bard College, 25-12, 25-6, 25-13, on Monday night. With the win, the nationally-ranked No. 12 Engineers improved to 3-0 on the year and 1-0 in the league while the Raptors dipped to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the UVC.

BOSTON, Mass. – The nationally-ranked No. 12 MIT men’s volleyball team kicked off the 2014 season by blanking local foes Newbury College (25-13, 25-18, 25-22) and Emerson College (25-17, 25-22, 25-14) on Saturday afternoon. With the wins, the Engineers start their campaign with a 2-0 ledger.

Engineers Earn Spot on AVCA Preseason Coaches Poll
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Members of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) voted the MIT men’s volleyball team to the No. 12 spot in its Division III Men’s Top 15 Coaches Poll as announced on Tuesday. This is the ninth year the Engineers have appeared in the preseason rankings and it extends their streak of consecutive weeks in the national poll to 38.

Men's Volleyball Garners Preseason All-America Honors
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT men’s volleyball team saw sophomore Brendan Chang (Laytonsville, Md.) and senior Paul Syta (Fairport, N.Y.) secure spots on the inaugural Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Division III Preseason All-America Teams. Chang represented the Engineers on the first team while Syta was among those receiving votes.

MIT Volleyball Receives AVCA Team Academic Award
LEXINGTON, Ky. – For the seventh year in a row, the MIT men’s and women’s volleyball teams qualified for the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award. Elmira College and Vassar College, fellow league foes for the men in the United Volleyball Conference, were the only other Division III double-honorees as Harvard and Stanford accomplished this feat at the Division I level and rounded out the contingent of men’s award winners.
