Rochester, N.Y. (January 22) – MIT men's volleyball junior Skyler Kaufman (Needham, Mass.) has been named as the United Volleyball Conference (UVC) Player of the Week after helping the No. 12 Engineers to a 2-0 start to the season. This marks the first time in Kaufman's career in which he has been named as the Conference Player of the Week.
In the two matches against Emmanuel and Alvernia, Kaufman totaled a team-best 24 kills to go along with four blocks, six digs and a pair of service aces. Through the first weekend of the season, Kaufman leads the conference in hitting percentage (.657 - 24 kills on 35 attacks), ranks fourth in kills per set at 3.43 and fourth in points at 28.5 (4.07 per set). MIT opened 2018 with a three set sweep of Emmanuel (25-21, 25-17, 25-13) before taking down Alvernia (26-24, 25-19, 15-25, 25-21) in four sets to close the tri-match in Boston on Saturday afternoon.
MIT (2-0) returns to the court tomorrow evening for its home opener as the Engineers will host Regis College in a non-conference match beginning at 6:00 p.m.
