Title: Volleyball Advisor

Oren Katzen, a member of the MIT Class of 2016 who is majoring in aerospace engineering, completed his second season as an advisor to the men's volleyball program. A native of Hod Hasharon, Israel, he graduated from Hof Hasharon High School with honors in 2008.

In 2004, Katzen was accepted into the National Volleyball Training Program sponsored by the Wingate Sports Institute in Netanya, Israel. Over the course of the next four years he served as the captain of the youth and junior Israeli national teams that competed in the qualifying rounds of their respective European Championships.

Following graduation, Katzen competed with several teams in the Israeli Premier League while also fulfilling his three years of service to the Israeli Military. He spent a season with V.C. Maccabi Arazim Raanana, which finished fifth in the league before captaining the junior national team at the World Championship qualifications in May 2009. After being drafted into the military that August, Katzen played with Hapeol Eilaboun for the next year. He then joined Maccabi Tel Aviv for the 2010-11 season, helping the squad capture the Israeli Premier League championship and cup. The team advanced to the quarterfinals of the European Volleyball Federation Challenge Cup where they fell to Macerata of Italy. In 2011, Katzen was selected as the third setter on the Israeli senior national team and then had a one-year stint with V.C. Neve Shaanan of the Israeli Premier League before enrolling at MIT.
