No. 7 Engineers Place Fourth at Stevens Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Nationally-ranked No. 7 MIT notched a 1-2 record and a fourth-place finish at the Stevens Institute of Technology Invitational after squaring off with two other ranked opponents. The Engineers (3-4) opened the weekend with a 30-26, 30-27, 30-24, victory over Hunter College and then fell to No. 4 Carthage College (30-32, 28-30, 30-18, 30-26, 15-6) and No. 9 Nazareth College (24-30, 30-25, 30-21, 30-26). Praveen Pamidimukkala represented the Cardinal and Gray on the All-Tournament Team.

In MIT's win over Hunter, Pamidimukkala led the way with 15 kills and three aces while Scott Pollom posted 11 kills and five blocks. Michael Demyttenaere notched eight kills and four blocks as Malcolm Bean contributed eight kills with a hitting percentage of .438. Philip Rogoz registered 39 assists and five blocks while Ryan Dean and Garrett Winther finished with eight and seven digs, respectively.

The Engineers saw four players reach double-digits in kills versus Carthage. Pamidimukkala tallied a team-high 21 kills as Demyttenaere added 13 kills and four blocks. Winther and Bean both posted 10 kills while Winther collected four blocks. Rogoz recorded 55 assists, 14 digs, and two aces as Dean bolstered the defense with 11 digs.

In the finale, Pamidimukkala picked up a double-double with 18 kills and 11 digs. Bean compiled 13 kills as Winther totaled seven kills, three blocks, and two aces. Dean paced the back row with 14 digs while Demyttenaere amassed four blocks. Tim Lee and Rogoz shared setting duties, with Lee dishing out 29 assists in three games and Rogoz earning 13 in one game.
