CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The MIT men's volleyball team defeated Johnson & Wales University, 30-19, 30-22, 30-22, on Saturday afternoon. The Engineers close the regular season with an overall record of 23-6 and a NECVA mark of 15-3.
Rob McAndrew posted 15 of Tech's 36 kills and recorded six assisted blocks. Ryan Dean tallied four aces along with four assisted blocks. Nathaniel Chan collected a team-high six digs while McAndrew and Dean each had five. Setter Jordan Wan dished out 25 assists in the win.
Next up for MIT is the NECVA Championship Tournament hosted by Ramapo College on Friday, April 8 through Sunday, April 10. The No. 7 seeded Engineers, making their first-ever appearance in the tournament, will face No. 10 Eastern Mennonite University at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. In a series dating back to 1992, each squad has won four matches. The last time these teams met was in 2001, when MIT posted a 3-2 victory before falling to EMU, 3-0, later in the season. In addition, the Engineers' last post-season victory was a 3-0 sweep over EMU in the EIVA Division III Playoff in 1993.
