CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - No. 6 seed and nationally-ranked No. 10 Vassar College swept No. 3 Ramapo College, 32-30, 30-23, 30-24, in quarterfinal action of the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) Championship Tournament on Saturday. With the win, the Brewers (19-7) advance to the semifinals where they will face No. 2 seed and nationally-ranked No. 5 Nazareth College. The Roadrunners closed their season with a ledger of 24-7.
Vassar registered a balanced hitting attack that featured four players in double-digits. Phil Tully led the way with 13 kills to go along with six digs and two blocks. Steve Micucci and Greg Maier each posted 12 kills while Micucci added two blocks. Evan Fredericksen notched 11 kills as Scott Leserman collected a match-high 17 digs. John Kessencich contributed 49 assists and seven digs.
TC Elsasser paced Ramapo with 11 kills and five blocks as Shane Donohue recorded eight kills, five digs, and four blocks. Jeff Elsasser registered seven kills and five digs while Kevin McNerney contributed five digs of his own. Jairo Sierra distributed 28 assists as Tom Kohler picked up a trio of blocks.
