CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Nationally-ranked No. 5 and No. 2-seeded Nazareth College advanced to the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) Championship Tournament Final following a 31-29, 25-30, 30-23, 30-25 victory over No. 6 seed Vassar College on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Eagles (28-4) will take on No. 4 seed Stevens Institute of Technology in Sunday's title match. The Brewers closed their season with a ledger of 19-8.
Nazareth registered a blistering team hitting percentage of .446 as Billy Gimello powered the offense with 18 kills and a .536 hitting effort to go along with three blocks. Ryan Johnsen posted 14 kills, a .684 hitting percentage, and four blocks while Kelvin Rolle rounded out the front row with 13 kills, a .545 hitting performance, and two blocks. Frank Leahy distributed 56 assists as Chris DeHority led the way with 14 digs. Brian Bunch contributed eight digs and four aces while Joe Petzoldt added three blocks.
Phil Tully paced Vassar with 20 kills as Evan Fredericksen contributed 14 kills. Greg Maier and Steve Micucci each totaled 11 kills, helping propel the Brewers to a .403 team hitting percentage. Scott Leserman notched 12 digs while Brian Bacchi recorded four blocks. John Kessenich finished with 59 assists and three blocks.
