CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Eight MIT water polo student-athletes were recently named to the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Scholar Athlete Team for the 2010 season. In addition to the individual accolades, Tech also received recognition for its overall team success, posting the fourth-highest team grade point average in the CWPA.
Brian Gardiner and Nikola Otasevic were recognized in the Outstanding category, recording GPA's of at least a 3.7 on a 4.0 scale. Matt Perkins and Columbus Leonard received the Superior designation (3.41-3.70) while Gavin Darcey, Kevin Hsiue, Alex Mattfolk and John Preis were tabbed at the Excellent level (3.20-3.40).
With a 3.36 cumulative average, the Cardinal and Gray earned fourth in the team GPA award standings, not far behind Harvard University's mark of 3.39. Brown University had the top overall team mark (3.52).
