MIT Competes At Bruno Fall Classic At Brown University

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – MIT's water polo team concluded their weekend at the Bruno Fall Classic with an exciting 12-10 victory over No. 16 Sant Clara University. Tech outscored the Broncos, 7-5, during the final two periods and received fourth quarter strikes from juniors Zach Nelson (La Jolla, Calif.) and Matthew Orton (Los Altos, Calif.), and freshmanKyle Archer (Clovis, Calif.).

MIT started their weekend with a 15-12 loss to Cal Baptist. The Engineers and Lancers swapped goals throughout the opening period before Cal Baptist pushed ahead for good with seven strikes in the second session. Tech trimmed the deficit with markers from freshmen Zach Churukian (Menlo Park, Calif.) and Patrick Everett (Ann Arbor, Mich.) in the third, but the Lancers countered with three consecutive tallies.

On Saturday, MIT fell in back-to-back matches to No. 14 Navy, 20-10, and No. 11 Princeton University, 14-8. The Midshipmen raced out to a 6-1 lead and never looked back. Senior Jack Clark (Laguna Beach, Calif.), juniors Kale Rogers (Newberg, Ore.) and Ory Tasman (Orlando, Fla.), along with Nelson and Orton each netted one goal during the second period against Navy, which was the most goals the Engineers registered in a single frame over the weekend. Against the Tigers, Tasman paced the Engineers with three strikes, while Rogers and Churukian each added two tallies.
 
In their final match, MIT fell to No.14 Brown University, 17-8. The Engineers fell behind early, but managed to close the gap with eight strikes during the final two periods. Tasman paced the Engineers in their final match with four tallies, including two markers in the fourth period.

MIT will enjoy a week off before they return to the pool on Saturday, September 27 with back-to-back matches against Fordham University at 3:00 p.m. and St. Francis College (N.Y.) at 7:00 p.m.
