MIT Downed By Brown, 12-5

Oct. 20, 2005

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - MIT (10-8, 5-2 CWPA) battled the Bears in the third of three regular season meetings last night, but the Engineers were met with a similar fate as Brown completed the season sweep with a 12-5 victory. John Rogers and Dallas Chase led the way for MIT, tallying two goals each.

Brown, celebrating senior night, jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Engineers came storming back. Dallas Chase and John Rogers recorded back to back goals to close the gap to 3-2. At the midpoint of the third quarter MIT trailed by only one goal at 5-4, but the Bears found new life, igniting a four goal assault to stretch their lead to 9-4 to close the third.

"We had one of our best quarters of the season in the second," said head coach Felix Mercado. "We then started forcing passes and that's all Brown needed to just fastbreak us out of the game."

The Engineers committed seven turnovers in the third quarter that led to Brown's four goal outburst.

"I am proud of this team because they never stop fighting" added Mercado. "We just have to learn how to channel our energy into playing better offensively instead offorcing things."

With Brown behind them and the regular season complete, the Engineers need to regroup quickly, as they travel to Connecticut College this weekend for the Division III Eastern Championships.
