CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Junior Paul Welle was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week on Monday after leading MIT to a convincing win at the Saints Invitational on Friday. Welle was the first of seven MIT runners in the top nine on a soggy and windy course at Franklin Park.
Welle's time of 26:11.67 was just nine seconds off the winning pace, good for a runner-up showing. With 20 team points, Tech outlasted runner-up Johnson & Wales, as the Cardinal and Grey owned 12 of the top 20 finishes overall.
MIT will look to defend its NEWMAC Championship in two weeks back at Franklin Park. The Engineers have captured this title in each of the league's first 11 years. The men's race begins at 11:00 a.m.
