Men’s Cross Country Finishes 13th at NEICAAAs
WESTFIELD, Mass. – MIT men's cross country team finished 13th out of 37 teams at the NEICAAA Championships in the varsity 8k run and eighth out of 19 in the sub varsity race on Sunday afternoon. MIT's highest finisher in the varsity course was sophomore Benji Xie (El Dorado Hills, Calif.), who crossed the line in 59th place with a time of 25:29.03. He was followed just one second later by senior Benjamin Mattocks (Sharon, Mass.) in 62nd place (25:30.79). In the sub varsity run, sophomore Matthew Jordan (Matthews, N.C.) finished 14th with a time of 26:00.65.
Following Xie and Mattocks in the varsity course was sophomore Allen Leung (Arcadia, Calif.), freshmen Edgar Gridello (Douvainer, France) and Ian Tolan (Binghamton, N.Y.) and junior Roy Wedge (Lawrence, Kan.), who all finished within nine seconds of each other, even though 13 places separated Leung and Wedge. Rounding out the remainder of the Engineers was senior Logan Trimble (Clearwater, Fla.) in 146th position with a time of 26:19.62.
In the sub varsity run, junior Justin Bullock (Detroit, Mich.) and freshman Ricardo Paez (Ontario, Calif.) finished just two seconds apart with times of 26:35.71 and 26:37.83 respectively, while juniors Jay McKenna (Hilliard, Ohio) and Eric Safai (Los Altos, Calif.) broke the tape less than 30 seconds later.
MIT will have almost three weeks break before it travels to Northampton, Mass. to take part in the NEWMAC Championships on Saturday, Oct. 27.
