Men's Cross Country Captures Engineer's Cup

BOSTON, Mass. - Junior Hemagiri Arumugam finished 13 seconds ahead of his closest competitor to help pace MIT to a 22-point victory in Saturday's Engineer's Cup held at Franklin Park. Tech's 23 points resulted in MIT's 17th consecutive series victory over RPI (45) and WPI (71).

Arumugam finished with a time of 26:33. RPI's Chris Donais was next to complete the eight-kilometer course at 26:46. Gihan Amarasiriwardena had the next best time for MIT, placing fourth with a 27:06 split while leading a pack of four consecutive Tech finishers. Paul Welle came in fifth at 27:09, Bill Phipps followed close behind, finishing at 27:12, and Kevin Kleinguetl's 27:17 was good for seventh. Trevor Rundell (9th) and Matt Bieniosek (11th) rounded out the scoring for MIT.

MIT travels to UMass-Dartmouth next Saturday for the first invitational event of its season. The men's race begins at 11:15 a.m.
