Engineers' Winning Streak Snapped

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Wheaton College women's basketball team shot 60.9 percent from the field en route to an 82-63 victory over MIT in NEWMAC action on Saturday. Cherelle Walls totaled 12 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the floor, five rebounds, three steals, and one block in 20 minutes of action for the Engineers (5-11, 1-6 NEWMAC).

Back-to-back threes by Kimberly Soo Hoo and an assist on another by Clara Yuan put Tech up, 9-2, after three minutes had expired. The Lyons responded with a 9-2 run of its own. After forcing a trio of ties, Wheaton took its first lead (15-13) on a lay-up at the 12:54 mark. MIT regained the lead on Yuan's trey over two minutes later. The Lyons answered with a 10-2 spurt that eventually resulted in a 42-30 advantage at the intermission.

Wheaton extended its margin to 16 points on three occasions during the first 6:27 of the second stanza. However, the Engineers went on an 11-0 run that cut the deficit to four (59-54) with 9:29 remaining. The Lyons countered by outscoring Tech, 23-9, to close the game.

Yuan totaled 12 points while Soo Hoo tallied 11. Samantha O'Keefe and Karen Kinnaman each dished out four assists while O'Keefe grabbed five boards.
