CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - MIT fell to Lasell College, 66-34, in non-conference women's basketball action on Tuesday. Alice Yeh led the Engineers (1-4) with 10 points coming off the bench while Kristen Whaley added six points and six rebounds. Cheryl Kwinn tallied a team-high 10 boards as Amy Marshall notched six caroms and two blocks. Jamie Simmons registered three assists and three steals for the Cardinal and Gray.
The Lasers posted six unanswered points to start the game and maintained a slight edge for a majority of the half. MIT went on an eight-point spurt that resulted in a 14-11 advantage with 4:37 on the clock. Following two ties and two lead changes, a pair of free throws and a layup during the final 30 seconds gave Lasell a 21-18 lead at the break.
The hosts carried the momentum into to the second stanza, recording a 20-2 run during the first six minutes to take control of the game. Layups by Kwinn and Marshall trimmed the deficit to 16 (41-25) midway through the frame, but hopes of a rally were thwarted as Lasell outscored the Engineers, 25-9, down the stretch.
