CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Christa Margossian notched a team-high 16 points and nine rebounds in MIT's 68-48 loss to Emmanuel College on Tuesday night. The Saints remained perfect in non-conference play as their record improved to 6-0 while the Engineers fell to 3-4 on the year.
A lay-up by Margossian on Tech's opening possession gave MIT its only lead of the night as Emmanuel responded with a 22-6 run during the next 10 minutes. The Engineers recorded the next eight points, narrowing their margin to 22-16 with 5:33 remaining in the half. Margossian started the spurt with a pair of free throws, which were followed by Sharon Prange sinking three out of four shots from the charity stripe. Michal Ruchelsman capped the run with the first of her two three-pointers. MIT stayed within striking distance, as it trailed, 34-25, at the intermission.
The Saints started the second stanza with a 21-6 run that extended their lead to 27 (58-31) at the 7:58 mark. Clara Yuan stopped the scoring spree with a trey, giving the Engineers their first points in over four minutes. Prange and Amy Marshall continued to find success at the free throw line, making both of their shots as MIT went a season-high 19-of-22 (.864) for the night. Margossian accounted for Tech's final 10 points during the last 5:46 of the game.
Prange posted 13 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the charity stripe as Alice Yeh grabbed five rebounds. Ruchelsman finished with 10 points coming off the bench while Marshall picked up a team-high four steals.
