CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Back at home on the Charles River, the MIT women's lightweight crew team completed the fall portion of its 2012-13 schedule by competing in the Foot of the Charles regatta. The Engineers had two entries in the Varsity Four race, the primary competition of the event, with the "A" boat turning in the best showing with a 27th-place finish.
Racing in a field that included lightweight and openweight crews, the MIT A boat completed the course in 15:14.4 for its 27th-place showing in a field of 42. Coincidently the Engineers were sandwiched between the two entries from its openweight team, finishing 0.2 seconds behind one and with the same time as the other. Of the lightweight fours in the field, MIT finished fourth behind crews from Radcliffe. The MIT B boat was 37th overall in a time of 15:48.7.
In the Varsity Eight competition MIT completed the course in 15:02.1 to finish 12th overall. The Engineers also had an entry in the Novice Eight race, with that crew turning in a time of 16:24.9 for an 11th-place showing ahead of a pair of openweight crews from UMass and Rutgers.
MIT will return to the water in the spring when it will race in the Beanpot on March 30 on the Charles River.
