MIT Openweight Crew Competes at Annual Beanpot Regatta

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Rowing for the second time this weekend, the MIT women's openweight crew team took part in the annual Beanpot Regatta on the Charles River this morning. The Engineers raced a pair of varsity 8 and varsity 4 crews against teams from Radcliffe, Boston University, Holy Cross, Boston College and Northeastern. Overall MIT finished fifth in the Beanpot point standings.

In the varsity 8 race MIT finished sixth in the field, finishing just four seconds behind Northeastern and 12 seconds out of third place on the 2,000-meter course. The second varsity 8 crew also finished sixth in their race, finishing less than six seconds behind the crew from Holy Cross.

MIT's varsity 4 crews also finished sixth in their races, with the A crew crossing the line 20 seconds out of fifth and the B boat 25 seconds off the pace of its nearest competitor. In the overall point standings the Engineers garnered 10 points, with Radcliffe taking the points title with 53.

Next up for MIT will be the EAWRC Sprints that will be held May 5 on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J.
