CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – It was the start of the spring season this morning for the MIT openweight crew team as the Engineers took on the Boston College Eagles on the Charles River. Boston College took all four of the races that were contested, with the closest event coming in the Varsity 8 race.
In the Varsity 8 contest the Engineers finished just 10 seconds behind their rivals from across the river, finishing the 2,000-meter course in 7:41.2. The morning started with the 3V8 event that saw Boston College take the race by a 17 second margin.
The Eagles had three boats in the Varsity 4 race, with the BC A crew edging out its B crew by five seconds for the win. The Engineers completed the course in fourth with an effort of 9:13.5. In the 2V8 race it was again Boston College that came out on top, bettering the MIT crew by 12 seconds.
MIT will be back in action tomorrow on the Charles, with the Engineers taking on Rutgers University. The first event will be the 3V8 crews who are scheduled to start at 8:12 a.m.
