Shin and Jarin-Lipschitz Earn NFC All-Star Honors
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior Robin Shin (Brookline, Mass.) and freshman Laura Jarin-Lipschitz (Rosemont, Pa.) represented the MIT women’s fencing team on Northeast Fencing Conference (NFC) All-Star Teams. Shin received her third straight Sabre First Team selection while Jarin-Lipschitz was tabbed to the Epee First Team. The awards marked the 10th straight season in which the Engineers collected multiple awards.

Shin and Paturu Lead MIT to 17th Place at NCAA Fencing Championship
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – MIT senior Robin Shin (Brookline, Mass.) and freshman Mounica Paturu (Plainsboro, N.J.) finished 21st and 23rd in the sabre and epee competitions, respectively, at the NCAA Fencing Championship which concluded on Sunday evening. Bolstered by junior Joseph Rafidi’s (Los Angeles, Calif.) ninth-place performance in the men’s epee pool on Friday, the Engineers ranked 17th out of 25 squads in the overall standings resulting in their best outing since 2002.

Shin, Paturu, and Rafidi to Represent MIT at NCAA Fencing Championship
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT will be sending its largest contingent to the NCAA Fencing National Championship in a decade following the selections of senior Robin Shin (Brookline, Mass.), freshman Mounica Paturu (Plainsboro, N.J.), and junior Joseph Rafidi (Los Angeles, Calif.). In a field comprised of 144 fencers, 10 will represent Division III programs as Brandeis University and NYU also earned three qualifiers while Drew University rounds out the list.

Women's Fencing Collects Pair of Top-10 Finishes at NCAA Regional
JAMAICA, N.Y. – Freshman Mounica Paturu (Plainsboro, N.J.) captured sixth place in epee as senior Robin Shin (Brookline, Mass.) claimed ninth place in sabre to lead the MIT women’s fencing team at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship on Sunday. Paturu was the first epeeist to crack the top 10 since Stephanie Shin ’10 accomplished this feat in 2008 while Robin Shin became the first fencer in program history to finish in the top 10 all four years during her career.

Shin and Paturu Crowned New England Fencing Champions
WALTHAM, Mass. – MIT senior Robin Shin (Brookline, Mass.) claimed her third sabre title while freshman Mounica Paturu (Plainsboro, N.J.) won the epee competition at the New England Championship hosted by Brandeis University on Saturday. Senior Annabeth Gellman (Ridgewood, N.J.) was the runner-up in the sabre field as the squad collected top honors for the fifth year in a row. In the overall standings, the Engineers finished third out of 15 teams.

Engineers Nip Brandeis, 14-13, at Beanpot
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – At the Beanpot held on Wednesday night, the MIT women’s fencing team defeated Brandeis University, 14-13, while falling to host Boston College by the same score. Against cross-town rival Harvard University, the Engineers were bested by the Crimson, 19-8.

Women’s Fencing Has Impressive Outing at Sollee Invitational
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Following a 4-2 performance last week in a Northeast Fencing Conference competition, the MIT women’s fencing team equaled this mark at the Eric Sollee Invitational on Sunday. The Engineers defeated Hunter College (24-3), Yeshiva University (26-1), Haverford College (22-15), and Stevens Institute of Technology (14-13) but fell to NYU (14-13) and University of Pennsylvania (18-9).

MIT Goes 4-2 in NFC Competition
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – In its return to action since the end of the fall semester, the MIT women’s fencing team recorded a 4-2 performance in the final Northeast Fencing Conference (NFC) competition of the season held on Saturday at Brown University. The Engineers fell to the host Bears (19-8) and Boston College (15-12) but defeated Tufts University (16-11), Smith College (23-4), Dartmouth College (19-8), and Vassar College (18-9).

Engineers Compete at Brandeis Invitational
WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior Robin Shin (Brookline, Mass.) amassed a ledger of 16-2 as the MIT women’s fencing team battled several of the top squads in the country at the Brandeis University Invitational on Sunday. The Engineers were unable to come away with a victory after squaring off with St. John’s University (20-7), Johns Hopkins University (17-10), Brown University (19-8), Cornell University (19-8), University of North Carolina (19-8), and Yale University (14-13).

Women’s Fencing Goes Undefeated in NFC Action
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT women’s fencing team kicked off Northeast Fencing Conference action on Saturday by defeating UMass Amherst (22-5), Wellesley College (21-6), University of New Hampshire (26-1), Brandeis University (15-12), Sacred Heart University (14-13), and Boston University (20-7). Senior Robin Shin (Brookline, Mass.) won all 18 of her sabre bouts while freshman Laura Jarin-Lipschitz (Rosemont, Pa.) was nearly flawless in the epee competition as she finished at 17-1.

Shin, Paturu, and Alkilany Lead Women’s Fencing at The Big One
NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The MIT women’s fencing team racked up six top-10 performances at The Big One Invitational hosted by Smith College on Saturday. Highlights for the Engineers included a runner-up performance by senior Robin Shin (Brookline, Mass.) in the sabre competition while freshman Mounica Paturu (Plainsboro, N.J.) and sophomore Sarah Alkilany (Brooklyn, N.Y.) were second and tied for third in epee action.
