Northampton, Mass. (February 20) – For the second year in a row, MIT junior Helen Sakharova (Ridgewood, N.J.) earned a spot on the Northeast Fencing Conference (NFC) All-Star Epee First Team. She is the only fencer in program history to be a three-time NFC Epee All-Star as she was tabbed to the second team following her freshman campaign.
Sakharova won all 21 of her bouts in the first NFC competition held on November 18. She then went 17-1 in the Engineers' second conference event on January 28, with her lone loss occurring against Vassar College. Sakharova's NFC record of 38-1 was the best among all fencers in the league.
MIT returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 24 when it travels to Mount Holyoke College for the New England Championship.
