CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - In its final Northeast Fencing Conference (NFC) competition of the season, the MIT women's fencing emerged with a 3-3 record on Saturday. The Engineers (11-6) defeated Dartmouth College (22-5), Sacred Heart University (16-11) and non-conference foe University of Florida (19-8), while falling to Brandeis University (20-7), host Brown University (18-9), and Boston College (14-13). Tech finished the year with an 8-3 mark in the NFC and a third-place ranking out of 12 schools.
The foil team posted the best record of the day with a 37-17 mark that included a pair of 9-0 wins over Sacred Heart and Florida. Cordelia Link led the way with a 16-2 ledger while Nancy Hua went 12-6. Lindley Graham rounded out the contingent with a 9-9 mark.
Led by Yushin Chen (11-7), the sabre squad notched an 8-1 decision over Dartmouth en route to a 26-28 total. Hareem Ahmad finished at 4-3 as Laura Evans registered a 6-7 mark. Heather Pressler contributed a 5-11 record to the Engineers' cause.
The epee team's best showing came in its match up with Dartmouth, where it won seven out of nine bouts. Stephanie Shin led the squad with a 9-9 mark as the team finished with a 23-31 record. Nicole Koulisis (7-10), Joanna Tong (6-11), and Stephanie Couch (1-1) accounted for the rest of MIT's performances.
