CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The MIT women's fencing team finished as the runner-up at the New England Championship for the second year in a row on Saturday. Brandeis University captured the team crown as it picked up 11 more wins than the Engineers.
Each member of the foil squad placed second in their respective pools en route to a second-place team finish. Cordelia Link led the way with a 10-2 ledger, followed by Nancy Hua's 10-2 mark in the "B" pool and Lindley Graham's total of 11-1 in the "C" pool.
The sabre team placed sixth with a record of 18-17. Yushin Chen paced MIT with a 6-5 performance for seventh in the top tier. In the "B" pool, Hareem Ahmad ranked ninth (4-3) while Heather Pressler was 12th (1-4). Laura Evans notched a total of 7-5 to place fourth in the "C" pool.
Zhenya Gu's ledger of 7-1 resulted in a fourth-place ranking in the epee "C" pool and lifted the team to a seventh-place finish and an overall mark of 21-13. Stephanie Shin finished fifth with a total of 8-4 while Joanna Tong went 6-6 on the day for sixth place. Nicole Koulisis rounded out the team with a 0-2 mark and a ranking of 13th.
