      <description>CAMBRIDGE, Mass. &#x2013; Coming on the heels of one of the most successful campaigns in Institute history, MIT placed 11th among all Division III schools in the National Association of College Directors of Athletics (NACDA) annual Learfield Sports Directors&#x2019; Cup. This was the highest ranking for the Engineers in the 14-year history of the program and the first time they were the best performers in the New England Women&#x2019;s and Men&#x2019;s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).</description>

      <description>CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - MIT student-athletes Keri Dixon and Leslie Hansen were recently named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District 1 Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Dixon, Tech's starting goalkeeper in field hockey, and Hansen, a four-year member of the women's tennis team, were honored as part of the At-Large category, which encompasses all NCAA sponsored sports without a specific award. Both were tabbed to the Third Team All-District.</description>

      <description>CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced the selections for the National Academic squad on Thursday and MIT picked up seven individual honorees, while the entire team was also recognized for its academic success. As a team, the Engineers finished with a cumulative grade point average of 3.36, to earn the National Academic Team Award for the eighth consecutive season.</description>

      <title>Silva Tabbed as New England East Coach of the Year</title>

      <description>CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Following the most successful season in program history, MIT's Cheryl Silva was named the New England East Region Coach of the Year by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) yesterday. Silva, who previously received similar accolades from the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), helped lead the Engineers to an Institute record, 18 wins, and the first ever appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament. Freshman Molly McShane had previously been named the New England East Player of the Year by the NFHCA, giving Tech both the top player and coach in the region.</description>

      <description>MEDFORD, Mass. - The MIT field hockey team dropped a 5-1 decision today at the hands of nationally-ranked no. four Tufts University, in the Second Round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Saturday, bringing to an end the Engineers' record breaking 2009 campaign. The Jumbos (17-1) jumped ahead early and held on to win the game, which was played in wet and windy conditions at Bello Field on the Tufts campus. Tech's season comes to a close with a final record of 18-5, the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament Championship and the program's first ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament.</description>

The Engineers opened up a two-goal lead in the first half and withstood a furious, late rally to advance past the host Bison. Kimberly Barker and Ekavali Mishra found the scoring column and Keri Dixon had another spectacular performance in net to help the Cardinal and Grey earn its 18th win in this record-breaking campaign. Nichols' season comes to an end at 18-4.</description>

The Engineers ledger drops to 9-4 (1-3 NEWMAC) while the Blue now stand at 8-5 and are unbeaten in NEWMAC play at 3-0.</description>

The loss was the first for the Engineers in seven tries at Jack Barry Field this year and drops their overall record to 9-3 (1-2 NEWMAC). Babson improves to 7-3 overall and 2-1 in NEWMAC play.</description>

The Cardinal and Grey welcome Wellesley College to Jack Barry Field at 1:00 p.m. A table will be set at the entrance to the field prior to the Saturday's game to collect donations and distribute breast cancer awareness information.</description>

      <description>CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - MIT opened up a four-goal lead and withstood a late rally to defeat Springfield, 4-2, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) field hockey action on a soggy Jack Barry Field Saturday. The win was the first for the Engineers in sixteen tries against the Pride, in a series that began in 1986. Jessica Oleinik led the way for Tech, with her team leading 11th and 12th markers, as it improved to 9-2 on the season and 1-1 in NEWMAC play. MIT also remains a perfect 6-0 at home this year. The loss drops Springfield to 5-5 (1-1 NEWMAC).</description>

The win gives WPI its first conference win of the season (1-0), improving to 7-1 overall. MIT falls to 7-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference.</description>

The seven-game win streak is one short of the Institute record, set during a 13-3 campaign in 1995. The Engineers opened the weekend with a 3-2 win over Manhattanville on Saturday and followed that up by besting the host Brewers by the same score Sunday to capture the tournament title for the second time in three years.</description>
