CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Following a 2-0 week, in which the MIT field hockey team moved into a third-place tie in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) standings, Kimberly Barker was named the league's Player of the Week on Monday. The Engineers defeated Wheaton and Mount Holyoke last week to improve to 13-4, matching the second best win total in program history, and 4-3 in conference play.
The freshman notched the game-winner 2:45 into overtime in a 1-0 win over Wheaton on Tuesday. She then added her first career hat trick in a key, 7-1 victory over Mount Holyoke Saturday. Barker now leads the team with 16 goals and 35 points this season.
The Cardinal and Grey will close out its regular season Tuesday night at Clark at 7:00 p.m. in a crucial game for positioning in the upcoming NEWMAC Tournament, which begins next Saturday, October 31. With a win Tuesday night, MIT will host a First Round Tournament game for the first time since 1998.
