DUDLEY, Mass. - The Nichols College field
hockey team remained undefeated on the season and extended its win
streak to eight games Tuesday evening with a 3-0 home victory over
MIT at Vendetti Field. Nichols, which is off to its best start in
program history, received a goal and two assists from first year
Emily Widdison. The loss marks the first on the season for the
Engineers, who stand at 7-1, and ends the squad's record setting
win streak.
Lauren Correia tipped a long shot from Widdison in the 11th minute
to put the Bison on the board, and in the 34th minute, Chelsea
Correia accomplished the same feat on almost the same shot from
Widdison for a two-goal lead headed into halftime.
With 17:56 remaining in the game, Widdison fired again, this time
just inside the arc, and her shot sailed through a mass of players
and past MIT goalkeeper Keri Dixon.
Dixon finished with 14 saves in her first loss of the season.
Current TCCC Rookie of the Week Krista-Jean Forand stopped four
shots for her third shutout of the season.
Nichols held an 18-11 shot advantage, placing 17 on net. MIT
outcornered the Bison, 12-10, including a 6-3 advantage in the
second half.
Nichols hosts TCCC foe Western New England College Saturday morning
at 10 a.m. for its Homecoming Game, while MIT opens NEWMAC
play at WPI Saturday at 11 a.m.
