WELLESLEY, Mass. – Senior Molly McShane (Lake Bluff, Ill.) was named the Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week by the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference after recording a goal and an assist while generating strong tackles and interceptions in a pair of wins for MIT last week.
In a 4-1 win over Wellesley, McShane helped keep the Blue off the scoreboard until 12:43 remained in the game and limited it to two shots on goal. In addition, she earned the assist on the Engineers' final goal as time expired. Against Mount Holyoke, McShane scored the first goal of the game at 14:50 and contributed to a defense that held the Lyons to one shot on goal which it converted with 9:20 left to play. For the week, MIT outshot its opponents, 34-16, and enjoyed a 23-3 advantage in shots on goal. Of the 13 penalty corners the Engineers had to defend, it surrendered just two goals.
MIT returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 13 at NEWMAC rival Springfield College.
