Field Hockey Lands Spot on NFHCA Preseason Poll

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the second year in a row, the MIT field hockey team secured a spot on the Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFCHA) Division III Preseason Poll announced today. The Engineers were voted No. 20 following a 2012 season that featured their third NEWMAC title in four years and a second-round appearance in the NCAA tournament.

Leading the charge for the Cardinal and Gray will be three-time NEWMAC and NFHCA New England East Region Coach of the Year, head coach Cheryl Silva. Also returning to the squad is NFHCA All-America selection senior Maddy Wharton (Swarthmore, Pa.) along with fellow classmates and NFHCA all-region honorees Erin Kenney (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) and Michelle Teplensky (Somers, N.Y.).

MIT kicks off the 2013 campaign on Friday, August 30 when it hosts New England College at 5:00 p.m. This will be the ninth time in 10 years both squads will face each other in their season-opener.
