Teplensky Collects NEWMAC Defensive Player of the Week Honors
BOSTON, Mass. – MIT senior Michelle Teplensky (Somers, N.Y.) received the first NEWMAC Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week selection of the 2013 season following her outstanding performance in the Engineers' 10-0 victory over New England College last Friday.
In the Cardinal and Gray's season-opener, Teplensky posted one goal and an assist while denying the visitors a shot during the 53 minutes she was on the field. On an NEC penalty corner just four minutes into the game, she intercepted a pass in the middle of the arc to stop what proved to be its best scoring opportunity of the half. Teplensky also had many tackles at midfield which kept the Pilgrims out of MIT's defensive zone.
Nationally-ranked No. 20 MIT returns to action this Thursday when it hosts Simmons College at 6:00 p.m.
