BOSTON, Mass. – MIT seniors Erin Kenney (Glen Ellyn, Ill.), Michelle Teplensky (Somers, N.Y.), and Maddy Wharton (Swarthmore, Pa.) were named to the NEWMAC Field Hockey All-Conference Team as announced by the league on Monday. Teplensky and Wharton earned spots on the first team while Kenney was selected to the second team. In addition, the Engineers received the Sportsmanship Award which is voted upon by the student-athletes.
A repeat first-team pick, Wharton anchored a defense that contributed to six shutouts and a 1.66 goals against average. In addition, she was tied for second on the team in assists (seven) and ranked third in points (15) while scoring four goals. A second-team selection last year, Teplensky moved from the backline to a spot up top where she was fifth in the NEWMAC in goals (17) and points (39). Kenney, a stalwart in the midfield, received her second straight nod after posting one goal and four assists while helping MIT outshoot its opponents, 416-185.
