Cambridge, Mass. (June 28) – The MIT field hockey team has announced its schedule for the upcoming 2017 season, which will consist of 16 games and is highlighted by eight home contests.
For the second year in a row the Engineers will host Simmons College in their season-opener on Friday, Sept. 1 at 6:00 p.m. In addition, MIT's schedule features a trio of squads that appeared in last year's NCAA Tournament. The Engineers will visit the University of New England, which advanced to the second round, on Saturday, Sept. 9. A week later, MIT will open up NEWMAC play at national semifinalist Babson College before hosting national runner-up Tufts University on Wednesday, Sept. 20.
The Engineers posted a 13-5 overall record in 2016 and advanced to the NEWMAC Championship for the first time since 2012. Returning to the squad will be All-American senior Emily Penn (Columbia, Md.) along with classmate Katie Notarangelo (Foxboro, Mass.) and junior Bailey Tregoning (Frederick, Md.), both of whom were named to the NFHCA All-Region second team.
