NEWTON, Mass. - Caitlyn Walker's hat trick gave Lasell their first win of the season, in a 4-1 victory over MIT in non-conference field hockey action today. Walker, a junior, was the first and last person to score on Grellier Field today, and recorded the game winning goal.
The Lasers got off to a fast start, producing 10 shots and holding the Engineers to just six in the first half. Walker's first goal came at the 25:05 mark, when Tia Pratt fed the ball across the net to an open Walker who connected with the far corner of the goal. Walkers' second goal came unassisted with just 26 seconds left to play in the first period, as she took a shot off a loose ball. Goal keeper Amanda Miller collected 3 saves in the first half, and defender Cara Hulse recorded one defensive save for the Lasers.
The second half opened with MIT's Jessica Oleinik scoring the Engineers only goal at 49:18, assisted by Virginia Nicholson. The Lasers answered back shortly afterwards with an unassisted goal by Stephanie Jansen followed by Walkers final goal at 63:46, which was assisted by Justine McComb.
Both Miller and MIT's goalkeeper, Keri Dixon picked up 12 saves in today's match up
Lasell improved its record to 1-1, while MIT drops to 0-4. The Engineers will travel to Simmons on Thursday, September 11 at 7:00 p.m. Lasell hosts Wheelock College on Thursday.
