CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - For the second consecutive game, the MIT field hockey team lost by a 2-0 margin, this time coming at the hands of Mount Holyoke College on Saturday. Both squads' NEWMAC records moved to 1-1 while the Engineers' overall ledger lowered to 4-6 as the Lyons' improved to 4-4.
Mount Holyoke dominated the offensive zone during the first half as it posted nine shots and eight penalty corners. The Lyons eventually got on the board when Mary Kate Switchenko converted a feed from Katelyn Frick for the eventual game-winner at the 17:51 mark. With five minutes remaining in the frame, Jaimie Macari notched an unassisted goal to give the Lyons a 2-0 edge at the break.
MIT came out strong in the second stanza as it out-shot Mount Holyoke, 13-10. Unfortunately, the Engineers could not get past goalkeeper Allie Walsh, who recorded 14 saves. Alexa Herman also made 14 stops in net for Tech.
