CAMBRIDGE, MASS. - A strong offensive showing by co-captains Deanna Lentz and Noelle Kanaga led MIT to a 5-2 victory over Lasell College on Friday night. Both co-captains tallied a pair of goals in the Engineers' (1-1) first-ever meeting with the Lasers (2-2).
Deanna Lentz put Tech on the scoreboard early in the game on an unassisted goal. In the 10th minute, she set up Anna Ayuso to give MIT a 2-0 advantage. Six minutes later, Lasell posted its first goal when Rachel Johnson fed Amanda Wasowski on a penalty corner. Noelle Kanaga scored what proved to be the game-winning goal off a rebound at 21:43. The Lasers then cut the margin down to one a minute later when Julie Losordo found Jacqueline Motyl. Tech entered halftime with a slim 3-2 advantage.
In the second stanza, MIT tallied both of its goals on penalty corners in the 43rd and 47th minutes. For the first goal, Anna Ayuso passed the ball to Cheryl Texin, who fed Deanna Lentz for the score. Lentz then earned her second assist of the game when she set up Kanaga for the Engineers' final goal. Lasell's offense continued to threaten during the remainder of the half, but it was unable to capitalize on several opportunities.
The next game for MIT will be Saturday, Sept. 11 at 11:00 a.m. when it travels to Gordon College.
