CAMBRIDGE, MASS. - Two goals by Deanna Lentz and a goal and an assist by Noelle Kanaga helped lead MIT to a 3-1 victory over Nichols College on Tuesday night. Stephanie Magni had the lone goal for the Lady Bison (1-4).
The Engineers (3-3) struggled during the early stages of the game, unable to capitalize on several penalty corner opportunities. Tech's offense eventually came together at the 7:28 mark, when Deanna Lentz scored off a penalty corner on passes from Noelle Kanaga and Christina Stefanescu. MIT extended its lead in the 22nd minute when Cheryl Texin set up Kanaga for what proved to be the game-winning goal.
The Engineers continued to pressure Nichols' defense in the second stanza, taking a 3-0 advantage after 10 minutes expired. Lentz connected on a pass from Anna Ayuso to score Tech's final goal of the game. The Lady Bison mounted an attack of its own, ending the shutout in the 54th minute when Stephanie Magni scored on a feed from Hollie Higgins.
In the goal, Alexa Herman had one save after facing only three shots by Nichols. Kellie Fitzgerald had 10 saves for the Lady Bison.
MIT begins NEWMAC play on Saturday, Sept. 25 when it travels to Babson College.
