SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The MIT field hockey team fell to host Springfield College, 3-0, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference game on Saturday. With the win, the Pride improved to 9-3 overall and 4-0 in NEWMAC play, while the Engineers fell to 4-8 on the year and 1-3 in conference play.
Becca Gamble recorded Springfield's first goal, scoring just 13:10 into the contest on a pass from Jane Kelleher. The game remained scoreless until the Pride struck again at the 42:13 mark. Allie Eisele found the back of the net on a rare double assist by Brittany Veazie Eileen Jenkins. Springfield's final tally came in the form of an unassisted goal by Christine Gibbins with just 1:22 remaining.
Two goalkeepers played one half each for the Pride in this game. Emma Kaplan came up with two saves in the first half, while Julia Kincade made three saves in the second stanza. For MIT, Alexa Herman had six saves as she played all 70 minutes.
