BABSON PARK, Mass. - Jess Paladino scored a pair of goals and Brittany Stevens added another as Babson College defeated MIT, 3-0, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) field hockey contest on Saturday afternoon. With their eighth win in its last nine games, the Beavers improved to 9-6 overall and 5-0 in the conference. The Engineers dropped to 4-10 overall and 1-4 in the NEWMAC.
Babson scored all three of its goals in the first half, beginning with Stevens' third of the season off her own rebound at 11:51. Paladino then scored on a penalty corner, converting a feed from Colleen Kelly in the 16th minute. The Beavers capped the scoring with seven seconds remaining in the half when Paladino collected the rebound of her initial shot and found the back of the net.
The 3-0 lead would prove to be more than enough for the stingy Babson defense, which allowed only three shots in the contest - none of which were on goal. Emily Cohen went the distance in net for the Beavers, while Alexa Herman finished with 11 saves in goal for MIT.
