SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - The Engineers relinquished two leads on Saturday afternoon as they were defeated by Mount Holyoke 4-2 in the NEWMAC Quarterfinals. Coming into the game, MIT had dropped five straight contests, beginning with a 3-2 loss to Mount Holyoke on October 15th. The Engineers began the year 11-2, but the late season collapse culminated in Saturday's loss, marking the end of the 2005 season.

Just over eight minutes into the game, MIT jumped out in front when sophomore Ashley Thomas scored her second goal of the year on a break-away pass from senior co-captain Deanna Lentz. As the first half neared a close, MIT surrendered the one goal advantage. Elizabeth Colby knotted the game with a blast from the top of the circle off of a penalty corner pass.

The Engineers bounced back two minutes into the second frame as Lentz found freshman Janet Pan for a goal. But once again, MIT struggled to maintain the one-goal advantage, and the Lyons tied the game at two on Katie Marquis' score. Mount Holyoke continued to pressure the Engineers after the goal, and with 18 minutes left in the game, freshman Jamie Macari helped the Lyons pull away. She tallied two consecutive goals to up her season total to 22. Liz Colby also registered two assists in the half and now has an impressive 15 this year. The Lyons cruised the rest of the way, limiting MIT to a dismal four second half shots, and hung on for a 4-2 victory.

The Lyons outshot MIT 19-10 in the contest. Jenny Wing denied six MIT shots in her 12th victory of the season, while sophomore Alexa Herman stopped 11 in the loss.
