MIT Finishes 11th in Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Rankings
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the second year in a row MIT placed 11th among all Division III schools in the National Association of College Directors of Athletics (NACDA) annual Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup. The Engineers’ Institute-best finish once again registered as the highest performance by the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).

Sixty-six Engineers Named to Spring Academic All-Conference Team
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) has announced the Academic All-Conference teams for the spring season of the 2010-11 academic year. MIT led the way with 66 student-athletes tabbed for Academic-All Conference honors.

Kauffman, Little, and Leger Earn NEWMAC All-Conference Awards
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the fifth year in a row, the MIT women's lacrosse team received three All-Conference accolades from the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). Katie Kauffman and Stephanie Leger received their first accolades from the league after being placed on the First and Second Teams, respectively, while Erica Little collected her second straight Second-Team selection.

Babson Tops Engineers in NEWMAC Semifinals
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Babson College women’s lacrosse team advanced to its fifth straight New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women’s Lacrosse Championship on Saturday afternoon after dispatching MIT, 16-3, at Springfield College’s Stagg Field.

MIT Fights Off Wheaton, Clinches Spot in NEWMAC Tournament
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT built a 10-2 halftime advantage and withstood a late rally from Wheaton College to emerge with a 14-10 victory in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women’s lacrosse game. The win clinched the No. 3 seed for the Engineers (9-5, 3-3 NEWMAC), who will square off with No. 2 Babson College in semifinal action of the NEWMAC Championship Tournament on Saturday, April 30 at Springfield College. The Lyons (6-11, 3-3 NEWMAC) earned the No. 4 spot and will host a quarterfinal game on Wednesday, April 27 against an opponent yet to be decided.

Leger Breaks Record in Loss to Babson
BABSON PARK, Mass. – Five different players recorded hat tricks to lead the Babson College women’s lacrosse team to an 18-7 victory over visiting MIT in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest at MacDowell Field on Tuesday night. With the win, the Beavers improved to 7-7 overall and 4-1 in the conference, while the Engineers dipped to 8-5 overall and 2-3 in NEWMAC play.

Springfield Tops Women’s Lacrosse, 15-9
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A 9-2 run that spanned both halves lifted visiting Springfield College to a 15-9 victory over MIT in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women’s lacrosse game on Saturday night. Kaitlyn Nealon led the Engineers (8-4, 2-2 NEWMAC) with four goals while Jackie Moscardelli racked up a game-high seven points on five goals and two assists for the Pride (8-4, 4-0 NEWMAC).

Engineers Grind Out 18-13 Win over Wellesley
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Holding a one-goal advantage midway through the second half, MIT’s Stephanie Leger won the first of four straight draw controls helping spark a 5-1 run that secured an 18-13 victory over Wellesley College in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women’s lacrosse game on Tuesday afternoon. Leger finished with a game-high 11 draw controls, just one shy of tying the Institute record, and also posed two of her three goals during the late spurt. Jenny Holland paced the Blue with five goals as its ledger dipped to 7-5 on the year and 1-2 in conference play.

First-Half Scoring Spree Propels MIT to 18-7 Win over Southern Maine
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – An 11-1 run during the final 19 minutes of the first half helped power the MIT women’s lacrosse team to an 18-7 victory over the University of Southern Maine in a non-conference tilt on Saturday afternoon. Laura Wacker scored three of her game-high five goals during the Engineers’ pivotal spurt while Shelby Turcotte led the Huskies with three goals.

Kauffman Scores Six in Women’s Lacrosse Win over Framingham State
FRAMINGHAM, Mass. –Katie Kauffman scored six goals to lead the MIT women’s lacrosse team to a 17-7 win over Framingham State University in a non-conference game Tuesday afternoon at Maple Street Field. With the win the Engineers improved to 6-3 on the season, while the Rams fell to 1-4.

Mount Holyoke Edges out Engineers, 15-12
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. –Naomi Miller exploded for career highs of four goals and one assist to lift the Mount Holyoke College women’s lacrosse team to a 15-12 triumph over MIT this afternoon at the Mount Holyoke Turf Field. With their first NEWMAC win of the year, the Lyons halted a three game slide and improved to 4-5 on the year. It was their first victory over MIT since the 2003 season. The Engineers had come out on top in each of the previous eight meetings between the programs.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Four unanswered goals during a seven-minute span in the first half helped propel the MIT women’s lacrosse team to a 9-3 victory over Smith College in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener for both squads on Saturday. Erica Little paced the Engineers (5-2) with four points on three goals and an assist while Becky Bracken led the Pioneers (2-4) with two goals.

Engineers Rally Past Emerson, 9-6
BOSTON, Mass. – MIT overcame a 4-2 first half deficit with seven straight goals and outlasted Emerson College 9-6 in non-conference women’s lacrosse action at Rotch Field on Thursday afternoon. With the win, the Engineers improved to 3-2 on the year while the Lions’ ledger dropped to 0-5.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In its first road game of the season, the MIT women’s lacrosse team fell to Williams College, 11-2, on Tuesday night. Kaitlyn Nealon and Kelly Duncan accounted for both of the Engineers’ goals.

Bridgewater State Holds off MIT, 9-8
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In a back-and-forth battle, Bridgewater State University came out on top as it emerged with a 9-8 win over the MIT women’s lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon. Jenny Jones and Courtney Lennon both posted three goals and an assist for the Bears (3-0) while Stephanie Leger led the Engineers (2-1) with a hat-trick.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A 10-5 advantage after the first 30 minutes helped propel the MIT women’s lacrosse team to 12-8 victory over Keene State College on Thursday night. Katie Kauffman paced the Engineers (2-0) with five points on four goals and an assist while Jill Kirk led the Owls (1-1) with three goals and an assist.

MIT Overpowers Gordon, 16-3, in Season Opener
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Laura Wacker, Erica Little, and Katie Kauffman each registered five points as the MIT women’s lacrosse team posted a 16-3 victory over Gordon College on Tuesday night. The contest was the first for both squads in the 2011 campaign.

MIT Ranks Fourth Among All NCAA Institutions in 2010 NCSA Collegiate Power Rankings
CHICAGO, Ill. – The National Collegiate Scouting Association (NCSA) recently announced its eighth annual Collegiate Power Rankings. Following another tremendous year, the Engineers were listed fourth overall in securing their highest ranking in the history of the report. The NCSA Athletic Recruiting’s Collegiate Power Rankings assess the academic and athletics standards of all NCAA athletic programs across the country. The Power Rankings were developed to help prospective student athletes and their families evaluate the particular strengths of the top colleges and universities at the Division I, II and III levels.
