BABSON PARK, Mass. – The MIT women's lacrosse team saw its season come to an end on Wednesday afternoon as it fell to Babson College, 20-7, in the quarterfinal round of the NEWMAC Championship Tournament. Freshman Kira Schott (New Canaan, Conn.) compiled three goals, five draw controls, and two groundballs for the Engineers who finish the year with a ledger of 6-11.
Senior Laura Wacker (Brooklyn, N.Y.) posted two goals and two draw controls while freshman Isabella DiDio (Jenkintown, Pa.) registered one goal, three draw controls, and a caused turnover. Senior Molly McShane (Lake Bluff, Ill.) notched one goal and two groundballs as freshman Christine Jiang (Canton, Mich.) added two groundballs. In net, freshman Paige Kennedy (Eastchester, N.Y.) finished with eight saves for MIT.
Babson converted a free-position attempt to get on the board after 23 seconds expired but unassisted markers by Schott and Wacker gave the Engineers a 2-1 edge at the 27:54 mark. The Beavers quickly produced a pair of goals; however, Schott's solo effort evened the score at three just over two minutes later. Babson responded with a 10-2 run that resulted in a comfortable 13-5 advantage at halftime.
Following the break, the hosts rattled off four more goals during the first 9:32 of the second half. MIT broke up the run on an unassisted blast by McShane midway through the frame but Babson put together a 3-1 spurt to close out the game.
