CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Three points apiece from Lynne Tye and Casey Flynn would not be enough as MIT fell to Williams College, 17-6, in non-conference women’s lacrosse action on Thursday. Tye registered a hat-trick while Flynn tallied one goal and two assists. Edith Reshef and Erica Little bolstered the Engineers’ (0-2) attack with a goal each. Stephanie Brenman notched three groundballs as Samantha O’Keefe collected three draw controls. Evelyn Cordner posted two caused turnovers while Molly McCartin finished with 12 saves and two groundballs.
The Ephs led off the game with three consecutive goals through the first eight minutes. MIT got on the board two minutes later when Tye connected on a feed from Flynn. After seven minutes of scoreless play, Williams tallied four unanswered goals for a 7-1 advantage. A free-position shot by Little helped narrow the gap for the Engineers, but Williams registered three out of the next four goals to close the half. Tye’s free-position goal was MIT’s lone marker as it trailed, 10-3, at the break.
The Cardinal and Gray continued to attack in the second stanza, recording back-to-back goals after two minutes elapsed. Flynn found Reshef and Tye’s solo effort brought the Engineers within five (10-5). In a span of four minutes, the Ephs went on a 4-1 run that extended their margin to 14-6 with 21:10 on the clock. Flynn’s unassisted goal broke up the spurt, but Williams found the back of the net three more times before the final whistle.
