Martin Desmarais Named New England Coach of the Year

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – It was recently announced that MIT women's soccer head coach Martin Desmarais was named the NSCAA Division III New England Coach of the Year. He will be recognized at the organization's national convention in January and will appear on the national ballot for NSCAA Division III Coach of the Year.

Since Desmarais took over as head coach in 2008, the program has achieved unprecedented success in the form of two NEWMAC championship titles and three NCAA tournament appearances, including its first NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearance this season. The team ended the season ranked 15th in the nation, marking the first time in program history that the Engineers have appeared on the list.

In September, Desmarais earned his 53rd win, breaking the record for most wins as coach that had remained untouched since 2002. He has attained a record of 60-24-14 and boasts a winning percentage of .676, the highest of any of the MIT women's soccer coaches.
