BOSTON, Mass. – For the second time in two weeks, women's soccer junior Ambika Krishnamachar (Darien, Conn.) was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Offensive player of the week, as announced on Monday afternoon. She scored three goals and notched an assist in MIT's 2-0 week.
Against Salem State University on Tuesday, she scored the Engineers' first goal 10 minutes into the first half and another just a minute into the second period, helping to lead MIT to a 3-1 victory. Against Babson College over the weekend, she earned the assist on the game-winning goal that was scored a minute before the end of the first 45 minutes and then scored her own 10 minutes after returning to the field for the second half to give Tech a 4-0 win over the Beavers.
Krishnamachar currently leads the Cardinal and Gray with her eight goals and one assist on the season to total 17 points. This is her most successful season to date, having scored five goals as a freshman and four as a sophomore.
Tech has just two more regular season games, both of which are conference matchups that will be played on the road, before the NEWMAC Tournament begins. The Engineers will first face Emerson College at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29 before playing against the U.S. Coast Guard Academy at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2. The first round of NEWMACs will begin in just over a week on Tuesday, Nov. 5, while the semifinals and finals will be played on Nov. 9 and 10.
