Alpert Named to Capital One Academic All-District Softball Team

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT junior Leah Alpert (Needham, Mass.) was named to the Capital One Academic All-District One team for softball as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). With her selection to the first team all-district, Alpert will now be placed on the national ballot and will be eligible for selection to the Capital One Academic All-America team, to be announced later this month.

Alpert hit .281 this year, with 25 hits in 89 at-bats. She was tied for the team lead with five extra-base hits and second on the team with 31 total bases. A two-time New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Academic All-Conference honoree, Alpert carries a 5.0 GPA in computer science and engineering. She has had internships with Google and Rapleaf and is also a member of the MIT Intramurals executive committee.

Alpert becomes MIT's first academic all-district selection since Leah Bogsted in 2008. She was one of four NEWMAC athletes tabbed to the first team, joining Ally Rivelli of Springfield, Lauren Goldfarb from Wellesley and Erin Flaherty of WPI. The Academic All-America team for softball will be announced on Tuesday, May 22.
