CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Freshman Alexandra Marshall (Glen Head, N.Y.) was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week after her impressive week at the mound. She is now 3-2 for her first collegiate season.

Against the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on March 27 in Florida, Marshall struck out 12 and held the Pointers to just one hit the entire game. In the game against No. 16 nationally ranked St. Thomas (Minn.), Marshall struck out 11 batters and allowed only three hits and one run.
MIT opened NEWMAC play in a double header against the Coast Guard Academy at home last Friday, defeating the Bears for the first time in six years with a score of 10-2 in the first game and 4-1 in the second. Senior Anna Christensen (Vernon Hills, Ill.) scored three runs throughout the day, going 3-for-3 in the second game. Senior Leah Alpert (Needham, Mass.) and sophomore Sarah Van Belleghem (Los Gatos, Calif.) were close behind with two runs apiece.
The Engineers are currently 9-4 for the season and 2-0 in conference play, having won the last seven games in a row. They will return to action on Wednesday, April 3 when they host Suffolk University at 3:00 and 5:00 p.m.
