Westwood, Mass. (March 5) - After helping the MIT softball team to a 4-2 record at the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III Leadoff Classic in Tucson, Arizona over the weekend, sophomore Sarah Von Ahn (West Linn, Ore.) has been named as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Softball Offensive Athlete of the Week.
Von Ahn batted .579 with 11 hits, four runs, one double and a team-best 12 RBI, which is one RBI short of her total from all of last year. She also added one walk and one stolen base in her outstanding effort this weekend. The sophomore posted multiple hits in four of six games and drove in three runs against both Birmingham Southern and No. 17 Moravian. Von Ahn, who is a utility player, played four games in the field this weekend and had a perfect fielding percentage with ten putouts for MIT.
MIT (4-2) is off for almost two weeks before opening their schedule back north with a non-conference doubleheader at Simmons College on March 17. First pitch is slated for noon and the nightcap is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
