CAPE CORAL, Fla. - After starting the season with three thrilling wins, the MIT softball team got hit with two equally tough losses on Monday. The Cardinal and Gray could only produce four hits in its 9-0 defeat to Otterbein College, before falling to Union College, 18-3, in a pair of five-inning affairs.
MIT trailed only 2-0 after three innings against Otterbein, but the hosts struck for seven runs on eight hits in the fourth to put the game away and hand the Engineers their first setback of the season. Lily Keung went 2-for-3 for MIT, while Amanda Jason and Jenny Li both went 1-for-2.
In the nightcap, Union exploded for 11 runs on 10 hits in the third inning to send Tech to its second straight defeat. Keung, Jason, Li, Holly Jeffrey and Jessica Oleinik had the only hits for MIT. Oleinik, Li, and Kaitlyn McCartney drove in the runs.
