WALTHAM, Mass. - Leah Bogsted struck out 13 Brandeis University batters as MIT posted a 4-0 win over the Judges on Monday. The victory marks the first time the Engineers have defeated Brandeis in 10 years.
Bogsted was a dominating force, allowing just four hits in seven innings of work as she improved to 4-5 on the season. She walked just one Judge hitter. Brandeis (2-12) got only two runners as far as second base.
MIT (4-8) scored three unearned runs to defeat the Judges. Carly Saylor led off the fourth on a single, advanced to second on a but and scored on an infield error off the bat of Elizabeth Gillenwater. Saylor walked in the sixth inning and came around to score on a misplayed ball in the Brandeis outfield, while Gillenwater scored on another error by the Brandeis infield.
The Engineers scored the only earned run off Brandeis rookie starter Natalie Volpe in the seventh inning. With one away, Bogsted singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. After Amanda Poteet flew out, Cheryl Texin singled up the middle for the game's only RBI.
