WORCESTER, Mass. - Meghan Kelly tossed a two-hitter and Nicole Magione belted a homerun as WPI defeated MIT, 2-0, on Friday. The second game of the doubleheader was rescheduled for Monday, April 10 at 4:30 p.m. due to the rainy conditions.
Kelly improved to 7-3 on the season as she did not allow a ball to leave the infield. She collected 11 strikeouts and four assists on comebackers hit to her in the circle.
Mangione accounted for both of WPI's (17-4, 4-1 NEWMAC) runs. She got things started in the first inning when she reached base on an error, stole second, advanced to third on a Kristen Gervais bunt single, and scored on a sacrifice fly hit by Jennifer Richards to leftfield. Mangione extended WPI's lead in the bottom of the fifth by smashing her third homer of the season.
Gervais had a pair of hits for WPI while Nicole DeCampo and Briana Dougherty each notched singles.
